Web Site Design: FAQ
Have questions about our web site design and development services? Check out our FAQ section to find answers to common questions people have. You can always contact us if you cannot find the answer you are looking for. We are available via phone or email anytime!
Q: How long will it take to finish my new web site?
Every web site is different, but the typical semi-custom website takes about 2 to 4 weeks to complete. The typical 100% custom web site takes about 4 to 6 weeks to complete.
Of course your new web site could easily be completed sooner or take even longer depending on the number of features and pages you require. Additionally, how quickly you respond to requests, supply us content, and approve each step of your new websites creation will factor into the amount of time it will take to complete your project.
Q: Can I have any domain name (or URL) I want for my new web site?
Yes, you can have any domain name you wish, but only as long as it is available (choose from .com, .net, .org, etc).
Please note that even though a domain name appears to be available (because there is no website when you type in the URL), it might already be registered by someone else. We can suggest alternate available domain names if you first choice is already taken. Additional domain names can be purchased if you would like (additional) and can be forwarded to your primary URL.
Q: How does creating a brand new web site work?

Q: What is the difference between a 100% custom and a semi-custom web site?
Both packages are similar, but with a few important differences. With both kind of web sites you will receive a high-quality website with your content added, standard SEO, domain name, hosting, images, etc. The major difference is that the semi-custom web site are based off of existing predesigned frameworks that we will customize to fit your exact needs, while the 100% custom web sites are made from scratch specifically for you from the ground up. It is the difference between buying a print of an existing painting and commissioning an artist to paint you something specific and new.

Q: Are you going to build my new web site then vanish all of a sudden?
The Rusty Pixel has been in business since 2006 so rest assured that we are not going anywhere.
Rusty, the owner and lead graphic designer, has been in business for himself for 10 years and is an experienced web designer. We will always be available to do any website maintenance, web changes or questions that you might have - even years later.
Q: Am I going to have to deal with someone in India or China that does not speak English very well?
No, you will only deal with The Rusty Pixel staff. We are American owned and operated and all work is done right here in the United States.
We are based in Central Florida in Brevard County on Florida's beautiful east coast (Space Coast). Located in Cocoa, FLA which is just east of Orlando, Florida and just north of Melbourne, FL (near the Cape Canaveral Space Center).
Q: Will you be available to make changes to my new web site once it is finished?
Yes we are. Once your new site is finished, we will always be available to make any necessary changes and updates that you may require. We pride ourselves on making your necessary web site changes and updates quickly (normally within 1 business day).
We also offer monthly maintenance packages as well as content management systems (CMS) which allows you to make changes to your web site.
Q: What is a content management system (CMS)?
A content management system (or CMS) works perfectly for those who plan on editing or updating their web site themselves at least 3 or more times every month. With a CMS you can easily make changes to your web site yourself (such as adding, removing and editing pages, text, posts, links, images, etc). There is absolutely no coding knowledge necessary to use and it is easy to learn (similar to a word processor).
Of course we are always available to make any changes to your web site that you might require. Additionally, we also offer maintenance packages for those planning on having us make frequent or scheduled modifications to their web site.
Click here for more information on our content management services (CMS).
Q: Once my new web site is complete how can we drive traffic and visitors to it?
We will drive traffic to your web site with search engine optimization (SEO) techniques and make it search engine friendly.
The first step is to identify and target the custom keywords and phrases that will result in the best possible SEO results for your new web site. Then we will configure these keywords and key-phrases into the code and META data of every page on your new web site. We will then submit you web site to major search engines (such as Google) and include your web site (with keywords and key-phrases) to our proprietary web-rings links program.
All of our web sites come standard with search engine optimization at no extra cost.
Q: What is search engine optimization (SEO)?
These are techniques and information added to the code of a website to help drive traffic to a website by improving visibility and relevance to major search engines. Standard search engine optimization is included with all of our web site packages at no additional cost. SEO results vary from industry to industry depending on competition for the targeted keywords and key-phrases. Advanced SEO (ASEO) can also be configured to your web site for greater results and traffic (additional add on).
Click here for more information on search engine optimization (SEO).
Q: What kind of keywords and key-phrases should I choose to maximize my SEO?
It depends heavily on the specific industry and location you are attempting to target. However, as a general rule it is important to choose keywords and phrases that someone would actually type in and search for when looking to find a website like yours (as opposed to just a business name).
The more specific your keywords are - the easier they will be to target which will translate in better SEO results for your web site. While keywords that are more general or broad tend to be more competitive and therefore more difficult to benefit from.
Additionally, choosing relevant keywords and key-phrases that mirror the actual content of our web site is extremely important. If your targeted keywords do not match your web sites text, then one or both need to change.
Q: Where can I find the definitions of common terms relating to web site design and development?
Click here for a list of common technical terms for web site design and development along with easy-to-understand definitions.
Q: What is an email contact form?
Email contact forms are an easy way for website visitors to contact you.
Instead of having to copy and paste your email address or pick up the phone and call, visitors can simply fill-out a form right on your web site. A form consists of several fields which are text-boxes where a visitor can type in their name, email, phone number, message, or whatever you would like. This information submitted (or sent) by the user will get emailed directly to you while an auto-response gets sent to the visitor. All, some or none of the fields can be made required (meaning they need to be filled out before they can be submitted).
Q: What are Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools?
Google Analytics allows you to get detailed statistics about your web site traffic. Discover the who, what and where about the visitors to your web site and learn how to better target your audience.
Google Webmaster Tools allows you to see exactly how Google views your web site and your web sites content. You can easily analyze your sites search data, Google robot crawls, indexes and page ranks.
Both Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools are a must for anyone seeking the best possible results from their web site. With the insight and critical data gained from these tools we can better tweak your web sites content to help drive even more traffic to your web site.
Q: What is the monthly and yearly cost of my new web site?
There is no monthly cost for your new web site. There is a yearly fee for the web site which includes everything needed to keep the web site online. It includes, but not limited to, domain name registration, hosting (monthly storage and bandwidth), email addresses, licensing for design and code, web-rings reciprocal links inclusion, etc.
Q: I needed my project done like yesterday; do you offer rush jobs?
Yes, we offer rush options for website design and development services for an additional cost (the cost varies on the type of project and on how quickly you need it completed).
Q: Where can I get information about your policies and other important details about your web site design and services?
Click here for important information and details to consider for our web site design and development services.
Q: I have a web site now but the person who created it is not responding to me, does bad work and/or is extremely slow. Can you take over the management of my web site or configure it with SEO?
Yes, of course we can.
Even though The Rusty Pixel did not create your website we can still make any changes that you might need, take over your sites hosting and transfer your domain name to us.
Q: Can I sell products online and have people pay on my web site?
Yes, we offer several different options for our e-commerce web solutions.
If you only have only a few products, a PayPal shopping cart might be just what you need - It is easy, quick and cost effective to setup.
If you have several products then a larger database-driven online shopping cart web platform would be your best solution. Visitors can also make payments directly on your website using a credit or debit card (additions required). Off-site payment processing is included (no additions required) using PayPal's secure payment processing (pay with or without an existing PayPal account).
Click here for more information on our online shopping carts and e-commerce solution services.
Q: Can you redesign my old web site?
Yes, of course we can.
Even if you still like your existing web sites look and feel it might be out dated behind the scenes. If your web site is 3 or more years old it very well could be using out-of-date code, older techniques and obsolete web technologies which can effect your site performance, SEO and traffic. A redesign might be just what you need to have your site load faster, improve your web sites search engine optimization (SEO) and drive more traffic/business to your web site.
With our redesigns we can retain your current company style by doing a freshening up your existing web sites design. Want something complete different? No problem, we can redesign your web site from the ground up with a completely new look and feel.
Q: What do you need to get started on my new web site?
To get started, all we need to know is what type of web site you will need (a semi-custom site, 100% custom site, shopping cart website, etc), how many pages you new site will have (along with a button list), your preferred URL and if you need any special features or functionality on your new web site.
There are some optional things you can send us if you would like. While not required it can help point us in the right direction of what you would like your new web site to look like. For example; are there any other specific colors or style that you know you would like your web site designed in? Are there any specific logos, images, text, etc that you need us to incorporate into your new web sites design? Do you have any links to other web sites you like the look of (the website links can be from any industry)?
The above is just to get you thinking about what you will require from your new web site - It is certainly not required.
